Character Name: Yuuki Juudai

Background: For most of his childhood, Juudai was alone. Not quite literally -- he had parents, but they were always busy with work and such and had little time for him. But he was without human companionship most of the time. Keyword: human. He's had the ability to hear and see duel monster spirits since he was young, and one in particular guarded him jealously... very jealously. Her name was Yubel, and so every time he would invite a neighborhood friend over to play with him, something bad would happen because of her, until the neighborhood kids just stopped coming to play with him anymore.

At the same time, Kaiba Corporation, a megaconglomerate in Juudai's world, had begun to accept cards made by people to send into space and gather the energy that came from it. He asked his parents to send in his own drawings of Neos, and Yubel as well with the hopes that she would receive the "energy of justice" and change her ways from the trip.

However, it didn't go as planned. There was a malfunction in Yubel's capsule, so after coming into contact with the "Light of Destruction", an evil force that resides in the far reaches of space, it plummeted back to earth, and Yubel burned up almost entirely in the atmosphere, leaving her with just her left arm remaining by the time she landed.

Years passed, and Juudai enrolled into Duel Academia for his high school years (which, in Japan, run from tenth to twelfth grade). Various events happened, including defeating the Light of Destruction once and saving the world at least twice. However, during his third year, Yubel returned to him -- she sent the entire school to a different dimension in which duel monster spirits were real and tangible (while normally they are just that, spirits) and possessed a boy named Martin to use as a vessel. After much hardship and adversity, Juudai and his best friend Johan (whom he'd met earlier that year and hit it off with like no one else) face off against Yubel in Martin's body... but Juudai didn't remember her at all until the very end of the duel, in which all the memories come flooding back to him. In the end, Johan uses the power of his Rainbow Dragon to send everyone else home... except for Yubel and himself.

Upon finding that Johan did not return with the rest of the school, Juudai is overwhelmed with guilt and sets out alone to rescue him by going through the remnants of a portal to the alternate dimension. His friends approach him and offer their help, so together they fall into an entirely new world, different than the desert-like one Yubel had sent them to earlier, called the Dark World.

So Juudai begins his search, learning that in this world, if you lose a duel, you will quite literally explode into a cloud of sparkles, the equivalent of death to most. Eventually, he runs into Brron, Mad King of Dark World, after running ahead of his friends, and finds that they've been captured by him with the intent of sacrificing them for the beginnings of a certain card, one with the power to fuse the twelve total dimensions together -- Super Fusion.

And when his friends are indeed sacrificed and Brron brings Juudai to the abrupt realization that it's entirely his fault for running ahead, leaving everyone behind, and ultimately being selfish... something that had been sleeping inside him for a long time awakened, turning his eyes a bright, twisted yellow, a power he'd known vaguely about and feared so much that he tried not to acknowledge it at all. This was the power of Haou, the Supreme King of darkness. Somehow, Juudai's despair and guilt resonated with this power, causing it to awaken and for him to take on an entirely new persona, that of Haou, the power of which was supposed to represent that of "kind darkness", from which all the universe was born... But instead, that intense negativity which reached out and resonated with it warped it, causing him to become more of a figure of evil than good. He defeats Brron eventually, who tells him with his last words that Johan is dead. He reverts back to normal for a very brief moment, until another of his close friends, Shou, approaches him and tells him his trust in him is gone. This is the last straw as he mires himself further in negativity and darkness and allows himself to fully become Haou, the ruler of the Dark World, taking Brron's Super Fusion with the intent to complete it with the souls of other duelists, human and monster alike.

It is shortly after this life-changing event that Juudai is pulled into Memento Eden -- still demonically yellow-eyed and with a notably duller, less open and friendly personality.


Personality: What once was a cheerful, lively, energetic personality has been subdued to a quiet, considerably more distant personality by Juudai's change to Haou, although he does not remember it. While he's not outright evil like he was, he is still much less talkative and friendly than he originally started out as. Cool and aloof, he zones out frequently and tends to have difficulty concentrating on one thing for long periods of time, perhaps suggesting a deeply-seated depression that dwells beneath. This is not to say he is entirely weak, however -- he can certainly take a stand for himself if pressed... though probably would not do so for others. He is also very intelligent and knows his limits.

As a general rule, he tries to avoid encounters by nature, rarely participates in anything he doesn't have to, and is always hesitant to ask for help, even when he needs it and knows it. When he must interact, he discloses as little information as possible, and tries to refrain from participation at all if he can help it. Often, he seems to find when he does get talking, he winds up saying things he might regret later on, with the tendency to take things far too seriously than originally intended. The carefully placed shields he possesses to protect himself from getting hurt, however, can be eroded down over time, if weathered by constant battering. But he seems to feel as a whole that being open and vulnerable to anyone is a dangerous weakness, that if he succumbs to the raw need of companionship, he'll become too dependent on it.

On the surface, he does seem distant, unapproachable; Juudai is rarely fazed in his current state and does not relate to others, insecure when it comes to socializing with people in general, trying by sheer instinct alone not to put all his emotions out on the table... and if asked about it, he would not be able to identify why. But in reality, he subconsciously holds himself fiercely, furiously to blame for whatever might go wrong, even accidents, even things no one could have predicted. He is solitary and reserved as a whole, an ingrained natural defense triggered by the incident that occured before losing his memory entirely.
